20MayRemember that leaked T-Mobile roadmap where certain elements were hidden by black boxes? It depicted Houdini, Sapphire, and Bigfoot, and disclosed the end-of-life for the G1. And then there was the WalMart release list that featured a device called Morrison. These two leaks started a lot of talking, and astute observers began postulating OEM responsibility for each handset.
Well, the form factor, release window, and make of Morrison has been unveiled with a newly-leaked and somewhat un-blackened version of T-Mobile roadmap linked to above. Check it out.

Yet another leaked BlackBerry Storm 9530 OS showed up today from the dark corners of the RIM labs, but on a bright note, it looks like OS 4.7.0.148 may finally be the next official version from Verizon Wireless. I know, I know, Verizon dashed the hopes of Storm owners across the nation when it declined to formally launch 4.7.0.113, but various posts on Crackberry's forums from individuals that are "in-the-loop" lend credence to the idea that .148 is undergoing official testing by Big Red. Additionally, BGR has gotten his hands on some intel stating that Verizon is working on testing a "new version" of OS 4.7. If you put the two together, you get 4.7.0.148.
For your viewing pleasure, the change log can be found below:- Enhancements to prevent some rare occasions, where the viewfinder of the camera may have remained enabled and caused the device to become unresponsive.
- Enhancements to prevent intermittent resets under various circumstances.
- Enhancements to prevent some cases where when using a wired headset while on a call, you may not have been able to change the audio path to handset or speakerphone.
- Enhancements to prevent some occasions where when receiving a voice call, the device may have displayed a blank screen.
- Enhancements to prevent some occasions where when receiving a voice call while on another voice call, the device may have not displayed the Caller ID of the incoming call
- Enhancements to prevent the condition where when the battery became low enough that the connection to the wireless network was turned off, when the device was plugged back into the charger, the connection might not have turned back on automatically once the battery was sufficiently charged.
- Enhancements to prevent when exiting standby mode, pressing any of the four hard keys would unlock the device. Password-disabled devices will not exit standby mode unless the lock key is pressed to unlock the device.
- Enhancements to prevent some rare occurrences where the device might freeze when receiving an incoming call.
- Enhancements to prevent some rare occurrences where a phone call was placed when the device was in lock mode and the user tried to open the virtual keyboard, the keyboard might not have displayed.
- Enhancements to prevent some occasions where when a user changed the Camera color to any effect, the changes might not have been saved as expected.
- Enhancements to prevent an occurrence where if the user was playing an mp3 song on the device at full volume and received an e-mail message while the song was playing, the audio might have been permanently lowered as a result of a problem with the audio boost feature and the user may have been required to set the ring tone to vibrate so as not to receive audible alerts when an e-mail message is received.
- Enhancements to prevent some occurrences where if a user was listening to music on the Media Player at the maximum level and received an audio notification that they have received an e-mail, SMS or BlackBerry Messenger message and then the song continued to play, the volume level at which the song was playing might have decreased and the user might not have been able to increase it.
- Enhancements to prevent some occurrences where when a user would try to create a custom profile and browse through the tones, the device would not play preview sounds. If the user clicked on the TRY button, it would not play the preview sound.
- Enhancements to prevent some rare occurrences where the device would display a blank white screen when receiving an incoming call.

If you believe all the reports of recession, well, you’re not reading this. You’re stockpiling petrol and trying to befriend feral children (Protip: don’t play catch). Those still here are aware that this year’s budget isn’t actually the price tag on the Book Of End Times - but for mobile makers, it was still pretty bad.HTC
The best losers were HTC, whose smartphone profits only fell forty million pounds. Please note that only HTC and Brewster can say “only” in that sentence. Compared to the last first quarter (who says economics is confusing?) they still lost about a quarter of Tom Cruise’s net worth: meaning that to make Magics, they’re missing the chance to buy the arms that starred in “Cocktail” (possibly using them to mime high fives or threaten Oprah).
Nokia
The largest handset makers in the world, here demonstrated by the medium of “the most massive drop in profits.” A 96% drop in profits. No, we didn’t drop a decimal point. Yes, that’s still better than (more…)

Sharp is shattering the line between camera and phone with the AQUOS SHOT 933SH, a ten megapixel camera armed with some “real, actual” optics instead of the puny pinhead aperture on most slimline cellphones. It’s still no professional piece, but it can likely snap the life out of any other cameraphone from twenty paces.
Of course, this extreme upgrade is out in Japan first, but expect to see preview models showing up all over the web as people get their gadget-hungry hands on them. The combination of ultra-powerful optics with the same ease of use as a regular phone will earn this system a lot of fans.

If you’re in any doubt as to just how important the news that Palm will be officially launching their Pre smartphone in June is, take a look at the news agencies who picked up on the story yesterday, aside from the tech-blogs, with Bloomberg and the BBC both featuring the story on their technology front pages. The Palm Pre has a lot riding on its shoulders, as it carries not just the hope of Palm’s revival in this tough market, but exclusive US-carrier Sprint’s too.The June 6th date has special significance as well, for it’s just two days before the beginning of Apple’s WWDC, where it’s expected the company will reveal their new iPhone as well as launch their latest OS version for the iPhone, 3.0. The price of the Pre has been set at $299 with a $100 mail-in rebate, effectively making the Pre $199, however this won’t be the amount anyone actually hands over in a shop, a potentially important fact.
No details on the European launch of the Palm Pre were given in the announcement, but we would expect Palm to do that soon, especially if Apple give details of any new iPhone in Europe at the WWDC.
RIM are also joining the party, with a credible sounding rumour they will be announcing their BlackBerry Storm 2 in June too. So, along with Nokia’s N97, Samsung’s I7500 Android phone and now, potentially, Toshiba’s Snapdragon-equipped TG01 too, June is going to be a very exciting month indeed!

20MayHey, Winmo-heads. I know there has been a lot of talk about N97s, Pres and iPhones lately, but we didn't forget about you.
If you run Windows Mobile 6 or higher and are looking for some back-up solutions for your phone, this recent announcement might be right up your alley. MyPhone has now opened for beta.
Users of this OTA back-up system get 200MB of storage gratis, which may not be a ton of space, but it's not bad for text-based files. Plus, you can think of it like having a mini Exchange Server on hand.
Of course, if your MyPhone's synced with the real MS Exchange Server, you're not going to need this. But for the rest of you, becoming a beta tester might be worthwhile, at least for storing calendars and messages (which rarely seems important — until you lose them all).
So far, the feedback's been pretty positive, so why not give it a whirl?

Sprint (NYSE: S) today announced pricing and nationwide availability for the highly anticipated Palm Pre phone, offered exclusively from Sprint.
Palm Pre will be available nationwide on June 6 in Sprint stores, Best Buy, Radio Shack, select Wal-Mart stores and online at Sprint.com for $199.99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate.
Sprint has high hopes for the device:
“It’s the highest confidence I’ve ever had going into a device launch that this is going to be a blockbuster,” said Kevin Packingham, senior vice president for product and technology development at Sprint. “I’m pretty sure we’ll know within the first week.”Tags: blog, cell phone news, discussion, mobile

20MayFor those of you wondering how much the Palm Pre will cost without the 2-year commitment (yeah, I'm talking about you, coltbr20), here's the info: Apparently, Sprint's customer service reps are spreading the word that the Pre will cost $549.
But, says Engadget (making an excellent point), this is the off-contract price, which doesn't necessarily mean it will arrive unlocked. So if you're thinking of grabbing the phone and running to Verizonville with it, you may have to change course.
As for the rest of you Palm nuts, if you're planning to nab the device on the June 6th Launch Day, be prepared for a long wait. (And, for goodness' sake, please, PLEASE go early, at least if you don't want to waste 10 hours in line only to go home Pre-less.)

20MayYou wait for months for the Palm Pre to show signs of life outside industry trade show videos and blog posts. Finally, you have the privilege of standing (or more like camping) in line all night, just to be one of the first to get your hands on the device when it launches June 6.
After that ordeal, you want a reward, just for sheer perseverance. Sure, the phone's its own reward, blah, blah, blah. But this is even better:
How about getting that tasty tech for the cheapie $199 price — without having to suffer the wait for the mail-in rebate? If that waiting line is in front of Best Buy, you can.
Best Buy Mobile announced that it will be selling Pres at the reduced, post-rebate amount of $199 at the point of sale. No forms to fill out, no more waiting for weeks or months, you just get your discount right away. That's sweet. Now you can afford to blow that extra $70 for the awesome Touchstone charging station.

20MayThis one cracks me up. I don't know if it's true, but I kind of hope it is because as far as revenge fantasies go, this story's pretty good.
It seems someone at Canada's Globalive (Global Wireless) got fired due to "poor performance in marketing." Did he do what the rest of us would have, which is head for the supply closet and pilfer reams of paper, staplers and whatever else he can get his hands on? Well, he may or may not have, but he also found time to post the company's inside information on Howard Forums.
There are leaks, and then there are leaks. This one was like a geyser. The canned staffer posted an incredible number of good-to-fuzzy screen captures revealing details on upcoming phones and pricing on plan features. In fact, there are too many pics to post here. (For a peek at the actual images, click here or here.)
Due to the sheer volume, BoyGenius summarized the info for your viewing pleasure. ("...prepare to mess yourself," the site says, "because if even half of this stuff is true, the Canadian wireless landscape is about to make a serious shift for the better starting in Q4.")
