In lieu of the holiday season, I've received confirmation from two of our sources that AT&T is offering 50 percent off of all of their BlackBerry models (including the Bold 9700). The devices start at $24.99, and rise to $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. Of course, a new two-year agreement is required, along with a $30 BlackBerry data plan (since smartphone plans are required now, I don't see that as a huge hindrance).
The full press release can be found below. No word yet on whether the carrier is honoring a 30-day price match policy, however I'll be sure to update as soon as I hear more. In the meantime, if you're able to snag one at the promotional price, let me know!

It’s official: we’re living in the future. LG mobile are making waves with their new Expo projector phone, a standard Windows smartbar which just happens to be a mobile cinema. Adding the optional portable projector attachment, you can project an eight foot image on any available surface - perfect for impromptu meetings or even impromptus entertainment.
This is an actual portable projector, the ability to show whatever you want anywhere you happen to be. Even in Star Wars you needed an R2D2 to do that (and the picture was pretty fuzzy and had a nasty habit of embroiling you in galactic conflicts). The Expo is only available to business customers, and only in America at that, but these restrictions are sure to change quickly as customers scream “Let us give you money for those!”
PC Mag managed to get their hands on one: it simply slides over the existing handset to become the center of the entire room, displaying files, folders, or films on a nearby wall. This combination of small size and big picture isn’t just futuristic - it’s the sort of thing they wouldn’t even have thought to ask for in the old days. And now you can keep it in your pocket.

Here we go! With December underway the countdown to Christmas has really begun, so while we shouldn’t expect anything too ground-breaking in terms of new releases, there are often a few gems sneaked out to an unsuspecting public. Until then, let’s take a look at some more mobile news stories of the week:
1. How Symbian Could Look in 2010.
Nokia obviously want to make their intentions concerning Symbian clear, following the rumour they could drop the OS, by showing off some concept shots of a Symbian redesign. The pictures show a far more attractive UI than we’re used too from Symbian, while Nokia have promised to streamline the OS user experience too. Will it actually look like this when it’s released though?
2. Samsung Reach Sales Milestone.
If you want proof that touchscreen phones have been a massive success, then take a glance at Samsung’s sales figures. The Korean manufacturer has announced they have sold 40 million touchscreen handsets this year alone, taking their grand total to 50 million. Their number one seller is the S5230 Star.
3. Verizon Continues Anti-iPhone Assault in USA.
Well, you could never accuse Verizon’s advertising folk of not saying what they mean, as the latest Verizon/Motorola Droid TV advert proves. Would want a phone like a princess’s tiara? No, us neither! (more…)

Are you a geek who loves mobile technology? Were you the kind of kid that divided your time equally between having your nose in a book and tearing apart your parents’ consumer electronics just to see if you could put them back together? Does your fancy get tickled by smart cell phone stuff like mobile phone comics, mobile phone art and cell phone poetry? If so then it’s not a far leap to think that you might like to read some great books that have been published on the topic of mobile phones. The following ten books are all smart, interesting books that tell you a lot about cell phones:
1. Cell Phone Culture: Mobile Technology in Everyday Life by Gerard Goggin. This is a really comprehensive book about the way that mobile phones have impacted out entire culture. It looks at everything from the design of mobile phones to the way that cell phones have impacted the art world. This book is a bit academic in its approach to the topic but that’s not going to hinder you if you’re truly a geek now is it?!
2. Mobile Phones: The New Talking Drums of Everyday Africa . This book also looks at the way that mobile phones have impacted culture. However this book is specific to the way that cell phones have dramatically changed the every day life of people living in developing nations in Africa. Mobile phones in developing nations are a very interesting topic to study for a variety of different reasons. This book covers them all!
3. Personal, Portable, Pedestrian: Mobile Phones in Japanese Life . This book is also about the impact of the mobile phone on a single culture but this culture is at the opposite end of the spectrum from the cutting edge nations. Japan puts out some of the most interesting stuff in terms of mobile technology and this book talks about the impact that this has had on life there. Admittedly this book is several years old so it’s not completely up to date in terms of its facts and doesn’t cover some of the most modern changes to the Japanese cell phone culture. Nevertheless it’s a smart book that gives you some great insight into the earlier days of this topic. (more…)

Overview of BlackBerry Bold 9700
The BlackBerry Bold original handset is a great handset that many fans of the brand have enjoyed. Unfortunately, even the best smartphones end up becoming a little bit out-of-date because technology changes so quickly in the world of mobile phones. The solution to this problem is to keep the best things about the old handset but update devices with new technology as it becomes available. That’s exactly what has been done with the BlackBerry Bold. The new version of the handset has everything that the old one did and more.
