Wow! The first half of the NBA season has really been exciting. Players have been making ridiculously amazing shots from all over the court along with fantastic dunks and blocks down inside. All of this has gotten the NBA fans ready for the annual All-Star weekend in Dallas Texas February 11-14th, 2010.
In anticipation of the big game, Verizon Wireless has been working overtime to get their network in tip top shape for fans heading to Dallas. Verizon customers can talk, text, and send their favorite Valentine pictures from the game via Verizon's enhanced coverage. Read more below in the complete press release from Verizon Wireless.
VERIZON WIRELESS’ 3G WIRELESS SERVICE READY FOR BASKETBALL’S BIG GAME IN DALLAS
DALLAS – The Verizon Wireless network is ready for the tens of thousands of basketball fans heading to Dallas this weekend. Network technicians – who serve as the inspiration for the iconic Verizon Wireless Test Man ad campaign – have been preparing for weeks to ensure peak performance for Dallas residents and fans during the festivities around the big basketball game on Sunday, Feb. 14.
In anticipation of a spike in voice and data usage in and around downtown Dallas and surrounding areas, Verizon Wireless network teams have enhanced coverage and increased capacity around the stadium, several Dallas hotels and the Dallas Convention Center.
The company already has a system in place at the site of the big game in Arlington, Texas, with a recently commissioned, state-of-the-art distributed antenna system to support the large crowds. This system strengthens the already robust Verizon Wireless network in and around the stadium for the spike in calls, text messages, picture and video messages, Internet connections and other wireless traffic during the sports games and other events during the week.
“Dallas hosts several large events throughout the year, and we want to keep those fans connected,” said region president Frank Antonacci. “We make significant investments to ensure the Verizon Wireless network will remain superior for visiting fans and local wireless customers.”
Verizon Wireless has continued to ramp up its network around Texas, investing more than $268 million statewide in 2009. The company activated several new cell sites in the Dallas area over the last year, including a cell site that improves digital voice and broadband data services in the popular uptown area.

Google is flexing its big boy muscles once again in an attempt to rule the playground. It has already conquered the search engine battle, gained considerable ground in the operating system stakes and even launched itself into smartphone war, so what’s next on the list?
Only one of the fastest growing online engagement tools, Social Networking. Google Buzz is the company’s challenger to Facebook and Twitter, integrating directly into Gmail. It will work in the same way as every other online community allowing users to post status updates, share content and comment on friend’s posts. Taking key elements from the two big names in social media, buzzers can follow people, as with Twitter and like or dislike things, a Facebook trait.
The Buzz system will work alongside the users G-mail account, messages are sent directly to their inbox highlighted with the Buzz symbol. With its foot firmly in the door of the online world already, Google’s using this to its advantage, public updates will be highlighted in search engines, a recommended content stream will be tailored to each user and Buzz feature have already been integrated into Google’s mapping services and mobile platforms including a mobile app for the Android system.
With Facebook’s users totalling almost 400 million Google are going to be hard pushed to wean loyal fans away, but with the company’s track record, anything is possible.

The S5260 Monte has been made official this week, a few days ahead of the start of Mobile World Congress. Do Samsung have so many exciting top-range handsets that they feel the need to announce their mid-range devices before the big event? We certainly hope so!
Anyway, back to the Monte. From its spec sheet, it looks to be the replacement for the year-old S5600 Preston:
The Monte uses Samsung’s familiar TouchWiz user interface, this time in the form of version 2.0, but it has had a few social networking tweaks added, including the addition of Google Latitude to the existing roster of Facebook, Twitter and MySpace widgets. The design has changed a little from the Preston, with call start and end keys taking a far more Samsung-retro style than the minimalist approach found on its predecessor.
Just because it has been made official now, doesn’t mean the Monte won’t be on display at MWC, as it’s there where we will find out about pricing and the scheduled release date.

Google’s wannabe super-phone launch was plagued with problems, not least among an inability to get fast help when you hit problems. These teething troubles were artificially inflated when annoyed users didn’t get replies to repair requests quickly, and - obviously being the sort of people who spend time online - wasted no time in complaining in every comment-box they could access.
The result was negative PR backlash against what was expected to be the tech-nerd’s wet dream. Googling might fix most problems, but it seems even Google think that’ll be too slow for many in this case, as they’re now offering live phone support for Nexus owners. This is all actually great news for eager UK customers anticipating the launch later this year - letting the US market make all the mistakes means a better-supported product when we get it.

Are you the kind of person who likes to make a lot of things by hand? Or do you like to buy things that have been handmade by creative people? If so then you know that Etsy is a wonderful place for purchasing such items or just for getting ideas about what you might want to make for yourself. And yes, there are tons of different accessories and items that you can get handmade for your mobile phone. Below you’ll find a list of the many different types of handmade items that people are creating for their cell phones. Hopefully this will inspire you to get creative with your own handset. And hey, guys, many of these things make great Valentine’s gifts for the ladies in your life! Some of the many different items that you can handcraft for a mobile phone include:
Arm Warmers with Built-In Mobile Phone Pocket. This design has got to be one of the most creative options for people to consider making or buying. It’s a set of arm warmers that are intended to be both cozy for the wearer and fashionable to wear. They’re more functional than that, though; they’ve got a little pocket built right into the underside of them where you can tuck your mobile phone. No more having to carry a purse around with you or even worry about having pockets in your pants … you can just put on your arm warmers and go. Leg warmers could be made using the same idea, of course.
Cell Phone Bag. A much more traditional accessory for your mobile phone is the cell phone bag. As the name suggests, this is a little bag that’s been designed for the sole purpose of holding your mobile phone. It has a little handle on it for carrying it around. There are many different designs for mobile phone bags but a favorite is the mini-tote. (more…)
