From the desktop, to the smartphone, and into your living room, Google is quickly finding its way into every aspect of your life.  This time, however, Google is joining forces with Intel and Sony to bring you a platform called Google TV.  Google TV is based on Android and is intended to bring web content either directly to your television or through a set-top box.  According to the New York Times, "The partners envision technology that will make it as easy for TV users to navigate Web applications, like the Twitter social network and the Picasa photo site, as it is to change the channel."

In the coming months, Google is expected to release the SDK for Google TV in hopes that developers will take to it like they did Android.  Presumably, because it's based on Android OS, it should be easy for experienced developers to pick up quickly.  Opening the platform to developers to create apps of their choosing could bring new meaning to the term 'surfing the channels.'

In addition to Intel and Sony, Google has called upon Logitech to craft a special remote control with a small keyboard, for the project.  Google's intentions in TVLand are (not surprisingly) the same as they are in any other industry, to generate revenue through advertisements.  According to an NYTimes informant with knowledge of the project, “Google wants to be everywhere the Internet is so they can put ads there.”

I'm not sure I'm sold on Google TV (or any other webTV variant for that matter).  What do you think?  Leave your comments below.

    BIS 3.0

If you're a Gmail-using BlackBerry fanatic with a device sporting OS 4.5 or higher, here's some news that should brighten your day!  According to CrackBerry, Research in Motion will be taking down BlackBerry Internet Service for four hours (assuming there's no hiccups) to upgrade from the current v2.8 to BIS version 3.0.  All this is expected to take place during the early morning hours of March 28, so as not to disturb "normal" usage.  The upgrade is said to create an outage that will affect 100% of BIS users across North America (that's a lot of folks...).

According to CrackBerry's information, the outage will take place "between 0100 CT / 0200 EDT on March 28th and 0500 CT / 0600 EDT on March 28th."  Don't worry, though, the benefits will probably outweigh the costs (eventually).  Some features that you'll see immediately enhanced are "increased attachment compatibility" for OpenOffice files and Windows Media Audio files, as well as other features that get more into the technical nitty gritty.  Additionally, we can expect to see features such as two-way sync between read, unread, and sent mail between your BlackBerry and Gmail inbox (you've probably noticed that the current version is one-way only), as well as the ability to create and delete labels directly from your BlackBerry.  These features are expected to "be added throughout the Spring 2010 by region."

I know I'll be going to bed at a reasonable hour this Saturday evening, and hope to wake up to some fun surprises on my BlackBerry.  What about you?  Sound off in the comments section below!

Carphone Warehouse is enduring a public relations nightmare after sending a customer the wrong phone. A woman sent her Nokia in for repairs and when it came back – fully repaired – it was also accidentally loaded with porn. Obviously a mistake in the repair centre (inserting the wrong storage card or sending the wrong phone), but instead of triggering a sigh and some deletions this amazing magical porn had a variety of astounding effects.

She was “shocked”, “horrified”, “deeply traumatised” and “various other words which have become the harbinger of legal action”! She suddenly became the first college student in history utterly innocent of ever thinking of sex (but still strangely able to watch every clip all the way through, the better to disgustedly describe them to the Sun.)

The real outrage began when Carphone Warehouse only offered £10 of free money, which – while already several steps above the “Why didn’t you just delete the files?” Was well below the mass media attention and free phone she’d get if she complained loudly enough.

If your HD2 seems to be running a little slower than usual, or one of your open programs is causing a problem, then performing a soft reset may be in order.  This is an easy process, but not one that is instantly obvious how to do, but once it’s done you should notice a considerable difference in performance.

    Follow these simple instructions:

    • Turn your HD2 face down.
    • Open the rear cover and place it to one side.
    • Looking at the handset so that the SIM is to your right, look directly below on the edge of the phone and you should see a small button.
    • This button will need a pointed object to push.
    • Once pushed, your HD2 will restart and return to your standard home screen.
    • Replace the rear cover.
    • Congratulations, you’ve performed a soft-reset.

One thing to be mindful of when doing this is that any unsaved work will be lost once the phone restarts.
